There’s no denying that lockdown has meant many people have found themselves with little to do on their weekends. Lots of indoor and outdoor venues temporarily closed due to the UK’s current COVID-19 lockdown, making life somewhat dull and a bit like Groundhog Day

Do you find yourself twiddling your thumbs each weekend when you’ve got downtime away from work? If so, here are some inspirational ideas to entertain yourself and help stop your brain from turning into mush! Check these examples out:

1. Binge watch your favourite shows

If you’ve got a TV at home and you seldom find time to watch your favourite TV programmes, now is the perfect time to catch up with them. These days, everyone is spoilt for choice when it comes to TV entertainment.

You don’t even need to pay for Sky or Virgin Media subscriptions to get your entertainment fix. Take a look at this list of best alternatives to cable TV for ideas on ways to watch your favourite TV programmes without spending a fortune.

2. Give your home a makeover

Has it been a while since you’ve updated the decor in your home? Now that you’ve temporarily got a lot of free weekends on your hands, why not make use of the time to give your abode a makeover? I had some spare paint and brushes and decided to create extra layers and cosiness to my room by painting archways. You can even put up shelves, pictures or signs and lovely writing! The possibilities are endless and can be next to nothing in cost.

3. Learn something new

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument but haven’t had the time? Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at something more radical like welding? Or maybe you’d like to learn how to knit? You could use your free weekend time to learn something new.

4. Get involved in a cause

Most people have causes close to their hearts. If you’ve got a few but feel guilty about not offering any help in some way, now’s the time to do something about that. You could offer your skills, time, or support to further a cause that’s most important to you.

5. Do some online moonlighting

Whether you’re free on the weekends because there’s nowhere interesting to go, or you’re stuck at home because you’ve been furloughed, you can use your weekends to do some online moonlighting

There are dozens of ways you can earn money using nothing more than your computer and Internet connection.

6. Improve your culinary skills

Are you fed up with only knowing how to prepare basic meals? And would you like to learn how to whip up some more exotic dishes that will tantalise tastebuds? If the answer to both questions is yes, why not teach yourself how to cook some exciting new dishes?

7. Take up reading

Lastly, if you feel that technology has taken over your life somewhat, you could always go old-school and start reading some new books. There’s bound to be titles that interest you, and books are super cheap to buy

Warning: you might end up getting addicted to reading and find that it takes over your life instead of technology!

Thank you so much for reading this post! There are lots of things to do that just skip our minds so I hope this post has given you some positive and fun things to do.

Stay wonderful!
