4 ways to upgrade your bedroom on a budget | Lifestyle interior series *AD

We’ve talked before on the blog about how you can declutter your living room and make it feel like more of an inviting, comfortable space. While getting rid of clutter is one of the best things you can do to make your house feel more comfortable, when it comes to your bedroom, why not go a step further?

People spend a lot of time in their bedrooms, and not just for sleeping. It should be a safe haven within your home, whether you go in there to watch television, read a book, or just to wind down and relax. The average person even spends 26 years of their life sleeping!

So, how can you make simple changes to your bedroom that fit your personality without having to break the bank? Let’s look at four unique things you can try that will make a big difference in the way your room looks and feels.

1.Give it a fresh coat of paint

You might be surprised at how much painting a room can make a difference. One of the best ways to give your bedroom a ‘chic’ makeover is to just paint one wall with a bold accent color, while leaving the others neutral but whatever you feel happy with is what matters.

If you want the room to look calmer and more serene, choose neutral colors for all four walls, but go a shade different than what you currently have to feel refreshed.  You don’t have to live with stark, white walls. Add warmer tones to calm yourself after a long day, and make your bedroom feel more like a sanctuary.

I recently painted my room a dark teal and since I have a big room I painted half teal and half white. It’s so elegant, cosy and fresh! As someone who loves all things Autumn, I am all for deep, warm colours to make my surroundings calming and cosy.

I definitely recommend freshly painting your room if you can and fancy it.

2. Splurge On Your Bedding

If there’s one thing you should give a lot of attention to in your bedroom, it’s what you’re actually sleeping on. By “splurging,” you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money. But, take the time to find a bedding set that works for you. Whether you browse name brands like Richard Haworth, or you’d prefer to go for something more eclectic and colorful, you should have a bedding set that fits your personal sense of style, so you feel good about spending time there to relax and even better about falling asleep there each night. You will appreciate it even more throughout this pandemic as most of us are spending extended periods of time at home, even working there too!

3. Add Color and Comfort to the Floor

If you have tile or hardwood floors in your bedroom, it can look stark very easily. A pop of color and intricate patterns on the floor can make a big difference and add a lot of warmth by making the room feel cozier.

Slipping a large area rug underneath your bed (or two smaller ones for each side) can give your room a more Bohemian look that makes it seem casual and comfortable. If your room tends to feel colder, especially in the winter months, you might be surprised just how much warmth a textured rug can truly provide, while adding interest with colors. It’s a great decorative addition, especially after you’ve picked out paint colors and your bedding since you can find rugs that work with the overall theme you’re already creating!

4. Create a “Fifth Wall”

You can add the illusion of more dimension to your room by adding a ceiling fan or chandelier. If you have a large room, it can tie everything together, but it can also make a smaller room seem bigger by utilizing your space. You can go for vintage style and even find more modernised ones too.

You can get even new fans or chandeliers without breaking the bank, so don’t be afraid to do your research and find what might work best for you!

If fans or chandeliers aren’t your thing, maybe find a nice shade for your bedroom light or even a new fitting. Maybe even find some glowing stickers to create a night sky. Make your bedroom your own tranquil space.

If you aren’t the kind to have anything big or feature like on your ceiling, treat yourself to a lamp or two around the room to give it character and light. I’ve chosen vintage lights from Homesense with a warm vintage bulb. It makes the room look so interesting and cosy!

Bonus Tip – Shopping on a budget!

You might find that buying everything brand new for your bedroom upgrade just isn’t feasible, especially with the wages being cut during this pandemic. That’s okay! In fact, you might have more luck with both prices and selection if you check out sales and thrift stores.

Often, you’ll find one-of-a-kind items or vintage goods that haven’t been made in years. If you’d consider your sense of style to be unique and you want your room to reflect that, thrift stores are absolutely the way to go. During this difficult time you can even shop with independent online sellers.

As you can see, once you’ve managed to declutter your room, you can really turn it into a space you’ll love spending time in. With these simple suggestions, you can give your bedroom an upgrade and completely change the look in as little as a weekend, without having to blow your budget or do a lot of renovation work.

Thank you for reading! I hope this post has helped and inspired.

Keep your eyes peeled for more on this subject. I’d love to hear what you think over in the comments.

Stay wonderful!
