The majority of homeowners are proud of their properties and in this day it is a huge honour to be able to own your own home or even call a place your own. This is the space you live in and it’s understandable that you’re going to want it to be the best it can be! Not only do you want it to be high quality for your own purposes – so you can kick back and relax here comfortably after a long day of work – but you’re also going to want to make sure it’s presentable and impressive for when you have your friends and family members over to visit or stay when the world isn’t on lockdown hehe.

Now, there are seemingly endless ways that you can improve your home and so it would be impossible to tackle them all in just one article. But let’s take a moment to focus on the different kinds of home improvement you can engage with to spruce things up a bit! We also focus on certain rooms in these previous posts: “Upgrading your bedroom on a budget”  & “Declutter your living room and house”

Deep cleaning!

The first and most simple step you can take towards making your home look a lot better is conducting a deep clean. Sure, many of us complete chores on a day to day basis. We’ll do the washing up. We’ll vacuum the floors. We’ll wipe down surfaces. We’ll dust and polish. We’ll sweep and mop. Then there are the less frequent tasks, such as changing sheets, cleaning the windows and scrubbing the toilet. But every so often, you’ll need to do a deep clean to tackle the areas that are often neglected. This could include cleaning your skirting boards, washing shower curtains, clearing radiators and steam cleaning furniture or carpets. Deep cleaning can refresh and help you start a new chapter on a clean (pardon the pun) slate!

Decorating

You should consider redecorating often if you like change and a refresh. Even Just a fresh lick of paint to the walls, skirting boards and door frames can make all the difference to your home. Repainting white walls and frames is a great way to brighten a room as we all know that whites will often fade and gather dust quickly.

You can use this as an opportunity to change your home’s theme and look, or you can stick to the same colours and simply freshen things up a bit. If you don’t have much time, there are plenty of professional services out there who can complete the work to a high standard for you but if you enjoy getting stuck right in, it’s a great little project to have fun with and see the end wonderful (hopefully) results! We have been redecorating recently due to having custody of my nieces and nephews and it has been so much fun. It really does set the scene for a new, fresh chapter in our lives.

Renovations

Renovations are a pretty major change. But they can have major benefits as a result! Renovations can alter your home to make it more functional, better accommodating or simply look nicer. They can range from en suites to loft conversions, extensions and more. Of course, they’ll be costly. But you can generally cover the costs with a loan and pay back in smaller instalments. Take a look at unsecured loans vs secured loans before taking any loan out. It is important for you to know before diving in!

We are lucky enough to know some talented people in the renovation industry and have been sorting out getting a bath and new items in our current walk in wet room bathroom. We cannot wait to get it started!

Gardening

If you have a garden, you’re lucky and should try to take care of it. This is a convenient and private outdoor space that you can enjoy. Maintain it well by cutting the grass, pulling weeds and perhaps even planting some flowers in flower beds. Alternatively, use gardening services to get the work done! If you’re not so green fingered that’s understandable but I promise having a clear cut garden can really impact your mental health and headspace.

We recently began growing vegetables in ours as well as planting new beautiful flowers and it makes all the difference when sitting in the garden surrounded by natures beauty! Head to my most recent post about “What Covid-19 has taught us about gardening”

These are just a few areas of home improvement, but focusing on them can really help to transform your property. Try out those best for you and you’ll see a significant difference in next to no time! You deserve it!

Thank you for reading! Have you been thinking of or doing home improvements lately? If so I’d love to know how and what you have achieved!

Stay wonderful!
