As the entrance to your home, your front door is the first thing people will see when they approach. It also gives you a warm feeling when you come home after a long day and see that familiar, welcoming sight.

But with so much attention paid to the inside of your home, it can be easy to neglect the front of it, leaving it looking a little tired and even a bit boring. If simple is your way then that’s totally ok but if you fancy a change, stay right where you are for this post!

So what can you do to make the front of your home more appealing? Here are some simple ideas for dressing up your front door.

Give your door a refresh

Your front door is exposed to the elements, which means it can lose it shine over time. But it’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to turn things around. There are all kinds of paint colours for front doors that can give your home a whole new look

Why stop at just the front door? Give your bricks, garage door and window frames the matching treatment! It can be simple yet super effective to add a lick of paint to bring something back to life.

Add a wreath

Wreaths are for life, not just for Christmas! And summer wreaths are becoming more popular now with home enthusiasts. You can make your own floral wreath with some simple materials that will keep things looking fresh, and adding a welcoming new feature to the front of your home. As an easy way to add some colour and style, it will really dress up your front porch. I love to create Autumn/ Halloween wreaths and have ended up keeping my simple black and red material one on the front door all year round! You can even do a seasonal decor for your door by making an Easter decoration plus it’s great fun for the kids.

Create a fresh look with plants and flowers

If the front of your home is looking a bit bare, you could take the time to add some plants and flowers to make the front of your home look more inviting. Plants can create a walkway and give your home some more character, and won’t need much maintenance if you choose the right types of plant. Some of the best hedge plants are some of the most affordable too, helping you enjoy an easy transformation on a budget. Some potted plants can also make a difference, adding some attractive features to your front garden. I’m a huge fan of hanging baskets and having one near the front door makes it look and feel so welcoming.

Install lighting for nighttime glamour

Adding some lighting to the front of your home can bring a number of benefits. It not only looks good, but it can bring some additional security to your home, as well as helping you find your way at night! There are all kinds of solar lights you can try, including stake lights and spotlights that can create an interesting feature without the running cost. Lighting can make a big difference to the front of your home, especially in the dark winter evenings, adding a touch of warmth that will show off just how lovely your home is.

Dressing up your front door is an easy project you can undertake to spruce up your home. Whether you want to keep things simple with a paint refresh or go all out and transform your front garden, you can find plenty of great ideas to dress up your front door and make it feel even more like home. I have an old victorian style looking lamp within the planters at the front of my home and it’s lovely to put the light on during dark nights throughout Autumn and winter. I’m also a huge fan of waterfall fairy lights we enjoy draping in our windows; They create such a beautiful glow that screams homely!

Thank you for reading! I hope you have found this post useful. Do you have any fun ways to dress up your door? If so let me know in the comments.

Stay wonderful!
