Any relationship issue is going to put you through the wringer. You are going to feel vulnerable and exhausted going through the process of dividing your lives. Therefore, the simplest tasks can be overwhelming. And when we start to feel that the simplest of things become complex this is when we have to incorporate more self-care, not just to make sure that we are looking after ourselves, but increases resilience and improves our lives on our terms.

Asking for help

So many think that in asking for help we are weak. But this is not the case. Asking for help means that you are actually brave. But it’s about making sure that you lean on the right people that have always loved you. Your family is always there for you, even if you don’t think that’s not the case. Sometimes we have to surround ourselves with the right people. And they may not very well support us in a “traditional” sense, especially if your family aren’t the touchy-feely type, but it will make us feel like we are not truly alone.

Preparing for the end

This is more applicable to those people going through a divorce. When you are being bombarded with terms like a decree nisi or a form E divorce, it can overwhelm you. Sometimes we can prepare for the end by making sure that we are aware of what’s going to happen next. Routine is something that will help anybody when going through a breakup or a divorce. But it’s also something that you can do to reestablish order to your life again. When we fail to prepare, we prepare to fail. And as humans, we thrive on routine. Whether it’s our circadian rhythm ensuring that we wake and sleep at certain times, or us knowing where we are going to be a week from now, it puts us in the right mindset. And it’s not as cut and dry as this, especially when we’re going through emotional turmoil, but putting some structure in place at least gives us knowledge of the predictable areas of life. You can use it as a coping mechanism. Especially when it comes to something like divorce proceedings, because you will know how the process goes, and you can prepare yourself accordingly.

Evaluating areas for change

If we feel like our life is crumbling, it is the perfect opportunity to identify ways that we can change our entire beings. Because a crumbling relationship can feel like the rug is pulled out from underneath you, now would be the ideal opportunity to look at what you would do with your life if now that this one part is not there anymore. Bad things can be great motivators, and it can lead to great change, resulting in a new sense of self.

Sometimes we may feel that we have to endure the tough times because it’s a difficult time in our lives. But there are little things that you can do which become key areas of self-care. There are these three components, but it’s also about the little things as well. Exercise, diet, and even deep breathing can be great signifiers of subtle change.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you have taken something positive away from this.

Stay wonderful!
