As a homeowner, you will be aware that home renovations can be a little stressful while the work is going on. Even the best laid renovation plans of the most organised family in the world are bound to experience hiccups and challenges along the way. Renovating your home is a great way to increase its value and freshen the place up, while also increasing the quality of your home facilities

If you are planning to embark on a kitchen renovation project, you might have a little trepidation about how the construction work will affect your day-to-day routine. Here is how to prepare for a kitchen renovation!

Figure out a timeframe

The first step to preparing for a kitchen renovation is discussing a timeframe with your contractor. Once you have an incredible kitchen design in place, you need to establish how long the work will take to complete in order to accommodate the disruption it will cause to your home.  This disruption might include

  • Not being able to use your cooking facilities for days, perhaps even weeks, at a time.
  • Noise disruption such as drilling and hammering.
  • Dust, which can cause breathing issues, especially for children.
  • Multiple construction workers in your home during the day.
  • Difficulty storing food as cupboards and other facilities are removed and replaced.

Figuring out a timeframe will allow you to move to stage two: creating a backup plan.

Have a backup plan

Once your potential time frame is established, you can move on to creating your backup plan for while the renovation is taking place. Here are just a few ways to continue functioning in your routine during the renovations

  • Rent temporary accommodation. If the renovations will take a long time, or perhaps you are having more than one area of your home renovated at once, it might be worth renting temporary accommodation. This will allow you to at least function normally, cook food, eat as a family and do your job while the chaos happens at home.
  • Use temporary facilities. This could include buying box-storage for food, a miniature fridge-freezer for essentials, or even a camping stove!
  • Stay with friends. If the renovation isn’t planned to take long, for example up to a week, you could stay with friends or family while the bulk of the work takes place.

Be prepared for a little chaos

Sometimes when you are undergoing renovations or other routine changes, the best attitude to have is just to ride the wave. If you allow every little thing to stress you out beyond belief, you will find the experience of home renovations very anxiety-inducing. While nobody enjoys the renovation process, you have to remember why you embarked on this home improvement journey in the first place.

Being prepared for a little short-term chaos is essential in order to get through the renovation, and reap the benefits of your beautiful new kitchen for years to come!

All in all, renovating your kitchen can have so many long term benefits for the whole family! Make sure you use this guide to prepare for the renovation process!

I really hope this has helped you feel inspired! Let me know in the comments if so. Thank you so much for reading.

Stay wonderful!
