Hosting a special dinner with friends | Collaborative post

We learned a lot of things during the coronavirus pandemic. But perhaps the two most pressing lessons were: our friends are important and our homes are important. So now that we’re living in a post-pandemic world, why not look at bringing both of those things together? It can be oh so much fun to host a special dinner for your friends at your home. Indeed, it’s arguably even more fun than getting dressed up and hitting the town. In this blog, we’ll take a look at some useful tips that’ll put you on the right track towards success.

The right number of people

You might want to invite anyone and everyone, but that won’t be a realistic aim. There will only be so many people that you accommodate, and in any case, the more people there are, the more you’ll need to prepare. On the other hand, you won’t want to invite too few people, either — this is a dinner party, after all! The ideal number is probably six. That’s enough people for a lively atmosphere, not so many people that you’ll be stressed about having to feed everyone. So who will the lucky six be? That’s entirely up to you!

The right moment

The time and day you decide to host your dinner party will play a major role in the overall experience. For example, there’d be a big difference between a Tuesday dinner party and a Saturday dinner party. So what are the best times? Well, anytime over the weekend. Friday and Saturday evenings are best if you want to get a little rowdy, whereas Sunday afternoon will be best if you want to keep things wholesome. It’s best to plan the dinner for at least a couple of weeks in the future, so people have time to get into their schedules.

An impressive dish

The dinner will be the star of the show, so it’s best to look at making something that’s a little more impressive than your standard dishes. You might like to make something like spaghetti bolognese, but that’s unlikely to whip up too much excitement unless it’s something truly special. So what should you make? Maybe spice things up a little and focus on incorporating some ingredients that are either unique or fancy (If that’s yours and your guests cup of tea!) — people will be suitably impressed if you serve fresh ingredients like fresh crab meat or beef for the meat & fish eaters for instance or fresh vegetables and homemade sauces etc. Maybe even go as far as to create a cracking veggie or vegan dish from scratch too. As well as the food, look at picking up some delicious wines. Bonus points if they’re a natural pairing for the food you’re serving!

Fun activities after the meal

Finally, think about what you’ll do after the meal. You won’t want to just send everyone home! For one thing, they’ll be pretty full and probably won’t be all that excited about jetting off as soon as dessert is over. Instead, look at doing something fun. You could play a board game or a game of cards, for instance, or all settle into the couch for a movie night. When I went to Gloucestershire with friends, we basically had a whole weekend of dinner parties and each night we would play a different board game, escape room type games and also video games. It was so much fun and really was so uplifting.

It takes time and effort to organise a great dinner party, but it’s very much worth it!

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you have enjoyed this post

Stay wonderful!
