Research shows that the average Brit reportedly spends  22 hours indoors, which is about 90% of their day. The common excuses that many people give for being cooped up indoors include the weather, work commitments, and tech gadgets. However, summertime is the best period to go outside more frequently, so it is best to take full advantage of this. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to spend more time enjoying the great outdoors. Here are some of the best ways to spend more time outdoors this summer.

1. Take your social gatheitngs outdoors

During summer, social gatherings are common as friends and family members meet to spend more time together. The cold, which prevents many people from enjoying the great outdoors, disappear during summer. Therefore, you can take full advantage of this to spend more time outside. Consequently, insist on having all your social gatherings outside instead of indoors. For instance, you can go for a hike instead of meeting up with friends at the bar for drinks.

Similarly, consider dining al fresco when hosting friends and family for lunch or dinner. However, ensure that you have the best awnings and blinds for your outdoor dining areas. This way, you can protect your guests from the outdoor elements such as insects and create an ambience that would guarantee a memorable dining experience.

2. Take up an outdoor hobby

Hobbies are beneficial to make the most of your free time, improve your creativity, relieve stress, and remain active. You can take up many hobbies, but it is best to target outdoor activities to spend more time outside during summer. Fishing is a great outdoor hobby to consider if you love wildlife and water. However, remember that you will need a licence to fish on public waters in the UK. In addition, you may require permission from the landowner to fish on private-owned waters. Alternatively, you can start cycling, the most popular outdoor sport Brits practised in 2021, according to a Statista survey. Photography, golfing, and hiking are other great outdoor hobbies worth considering.

3. Work or study outside

Many experts recommend working outside if your job allows it. Therefore, you can take your job outside if it involves spending all your time in front of a computer screen or in meetings. You can take your laptop to a local green space to enjoy the fresh air and sunlight while getting things done. Also, you can arrange your meetings under trees or at picnic tables to spend more time outdoors. Similarly, studying outside is a great option for a student to enjoy proven benefits like enhanced motivation, heightened creativity, and reduced stress.

4. Go on a retreat

It sounds nice to spend several days or weeks in a lovely natural setting away from your routine. Therefore, take a retreat or two this summer to slow down, refresh yourself, and get new inspiration. This retreat can be a simple weekend getaway to a nearby place where you can enjoy the great outdoors. Retreats don’t have to be fancy or far away, so you can take them as often as needed during the summer.

Thank you so much for reading. Hopefully this Summer will be a breath of fresh air.

Stay wonderful!
