How to boost your home’s performance | Collaborative post

Although it’s something so easy to ignore or entirely forget about, our home’s energy usage is actually extremely important, and ensuring the property is more energy-efficient not only means cost-savings for you, but it is also much better for the environment. With that in mind, boosting your home’s performance should be something that is taken very seriously indeed. The sooner you begin to make the necessary changes in your home and take notice of what is required, the more benefits you will see. Read on to find out more about how to get started.

Insulate the attic

When was the last time you had a good look around your attic space? Maybe you never have; for most people, it’s a storage space that is useful, but they don’t think a lot more about it than that. However, it could be that your attic is costing you a great deal of money, and it might be making your home a lot less energy-efficient.

It’s all about the insulation. Insulation is installed in an attic or roof space to keep the heat in during the winter and out during the summer; essentially, if the house is warmer than the outside, the heat stays in, and if it’s cooler than the outside, the heat stays out. If the insulation is damaged or missing, or just not thick enough to work correctly, a lot of your heating will be lost so it will take longer (and cost more) to warm your home. It’s recommended to connect with a company like Eco Tec Insulation to conduct a thorough inspection of your loft space if you feel your energy bills are higher than usual. They will be able to address any thermal issues with their expertise and specialised solutions. When it’s hot outside, the hot air will be able to penetrate, so your cooling system will have to work harder (and, again, cost more). Make sure your insulation is in place and is thick enough to do its job.

Upgrade your boiler

An old boiler is bad for the environment and bad for your budget, and it’s far better to replace it with a modern, more efficient version. Getting a new boiler price doesn’t have to be scary though; you can pay in monthly installments to start with, and because they are so much more efficient than older models, they will last for a lot longer, so you don’t have to think about getting another one for decades. Plus, the money you save on your energy bills can be offset against the cost of the boilers.

Upgrading your boiler is something that you should consider if it is old and has stopped working properly. If it’s not so old it might just be that it needs a tune-up. Call in a qualified plumber who has expertise in boilers to check it over and ensure that it’s working at its full capacity. They will be able to advise on whether a new boiler is required once they’ve checked things over.

Consider solar panels

Solar panels are becoming increasingly popular, and are a great, eco-friendly way to boost your home’s performance. You don’t have to live in a place that has sunshine all year round for them to work either; it’s the UV rays from the sun that are important, not the heat, and those rays will penetrate cloud cover and help to run the electricity in your home if you have solar panels installed on your roof.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope these little tips have come in handy for you.

Stay wonderful!
