Pho Vietnamese Street Food | Foodie Review

So, Pho Vietnamese street food is one of my all time favourite restaurants to go to and indulge in. The atmosphere in Pho Grand Central Station Birmingham is always buzzing, with amazing staff, fresh and delicious Vietnamese dishes and an overall comfortable place to be in. It’s also great for Vegans, which is why I’m writing this review. I love finding restaurants that do vegan options, and I don’t just mean a generic veggie burger! I mean really beautiful, well thought out dishes.

Starters

As you can see, these above are three delicious options for starters and sides! We have the ‘Summer rolls’, ‘Spring rolls’ and vegan ‘prawn crackers’. My all time favourite starter so far is the ‘Vegetable spring rolls’ with peanut sauce. They are absolutely scrumptious, flavourful and when accompanied by and wrapped with the lettuce, mint leaves and then dipped in the peanut sauce, they are honestly unbeatable. I could eat and eat and eat!

The ‘Summer rolls’ are nice but not as good as the ‘Spring rolls’. The ‘Summer rolls’ are wrapped in rice paper which gives it a much different texture. For some these may be favoured over the spring rolls but I, for sure prefer them.

The vegan prawn crackers are a lovely addition to the vegan options and one I love to order when waiting for food to arrive. It’s a nice plate to share and is super light as well. There are a nice set of options for starters including stir fried Chinese leaf, morning glory and lotus stems. There are many more for those who eat meat and fish too!

Mains

There is a huge choice of mains including salads, noodle soups, house specials, curries, wok fried rice and noodles. For me, my favourite option is the ‘Classic Todu Ca-ri (Curry). It’s tofu, mushrooms and vegetables in a rich, fragrant curry sauce with broken rice. It is so delicious that I find myself craving it (Don’t judge me). We tried the vegan ‘This isn’t chicken’ option but we weren’t a fan of the mock meat so stick to tofu now!

Another main I have tried is the ‘Tofu and button mushrooms Pho Chay’ with veggie broth which is essentially ramen/ Rice noodle soup topped with option additions of mint leaves, coriander, fresh chillies, beansprouts and greens. I really liked this option as I am a lover of ramen, but like most things, it may not be for some.

Here is the main menu so you can see the incredible options this restaurant offers.

Drinks

In terms of drinks, as you can see below they have a nice amount of option. From Beers and ciders, wines, cocktails and then booze-free options, they really do offer something that will tickle each persons fancy! I adore that they have teas and offer drinks you wouldn’t perhaps see in many other places. I love the unique option of soft drinks too. I usually go for a Prosecco if I’m drinking, but mainly go for the option of homemade lemonade or coke with a jug of tap water.

Overall, Pho in Grand Central is a beautiful place to be. It’s vibrant, has quick and lovely service and the food is divine. It truly makes me want to try more and more Vietnamese food. If you find yourself wandering around Birmingham and you’re looking for a place to eat, maybe pop by Pho!

I hope you have enjoyed this little review. Please let me know in the comments or over on my socials if you have been to Pho or would like to.

Stay wonderful!
