Preparing your home for a cosy Autumn | Collaborative post

Autumn is upon us, and although not in full swing yet, we are starting to see the signs of the cosiest season of the year. I mean, Starbucks have brought back their pumpkin spice latte, so now is the time to be getting everything ready for autumn. One of the places that is best suited to autumn and all things cosy is your home. With darker nights and cooler weather, we tend to stay indoors much more than ever before. If you need a few quick and simple ideas to get your home ready for the autumn season, then here are some things to think about.

Getting organised

September and October are the ideal months to get yourselves organised, as the summer fun is over and there is a lot to plan for. By getting more organised, you’ll be ready for all that autumn and winter has to offer, and you’ll be ready for the excess that comes with this time of year. Start by putting away summer clothes and shoes (perhaps having a declutter at the same time). It can also be a good time to organise other areas of the home such as the kitchen cupboards, to make space for comfort foods and all of the fun recipes that you’ll want to try.

Think of your privacy in the home

The nights will start to get darker much earlier on, and as a result, you’ll put more lights on in your home. If you don’t close curtains, then it can mean that passersby can look straight through your windows, which isn’t ideal if you are looking for privacy. However, closing your curtains at five o’clock in the evening can feel a bit much sometimes! You could think about getting some plantation shutters or blinds instead, which allows you to have some privacy, but not shut off the whole of the window. Another idea could be to get a timer for lamps, so that they switch on at certain times. If you’re not in and it is dark outside, it is a big giveaway that you’re not home.

Cosy up at bed time

If you are looking to create a space that is warm and restful for the crisp autumn days, then your bedroom is somewhere that is ideal to do this with. Think about adding thick and chunky textiles to your bed, as well as throws and cushions that will allow you to get cosy. By adding even a few simple things, you will be able to create an instant transformation and take your bed from summer to autumn.

Add pops of Autumn colour

Adding pops of colour can really help you to get into the mood of the season. This could be through flowers, both faux and fresh, as well as adding decorations from decorative pumpkins to throws and cushions in other areas of the home too. Bring a little bit of the outdoors into the inside with colour and foliage, and it helps to create some real cosy autumnal vibes.

Thank you so much for reading. If your anything like me and cosiness is a key part of your life then this post should give you some ideas to really embrace cosiness this Autumn.

Stay wonderful!
