Sensible Splurges when getting ready for baby | Parenting

There are so many things to spend your money on when you are expecting, from stockpiling diapers to baby clothes you will only use for a ridiculously short time.  But here are some bigger ticket items you might want to consider.  Think of them as investments to get you through your little one’s early days.

Meal delivery

You might scoff at this one, and if you have time to make and freeze lots of meals before baby comes, it isn’t such a big deal.  But if you only have a small freezer, stress about cooking, or just don’t have time to deal with it, a meal delivery service can be the right choice for those first few weeks when you will be exhausted.  Spend your time cuddling your infant, not tied up in the kitchen.

Obviously, this isn’t an excellent choice for the environment, even if you choose to go green.  But when baby comes and your life gets crazy, washing and sterilizing your bottles and breast pump will give you plenty of dishes to do.  Any that you can eliminate will be a blessing you can bestow on yourself.

Nursery furniture set

We don’t all have time to spend searching out the perfect changing table that also matches the perfect crib we found at a different store.  Sometimes it just makes sense to buy the set.  Quality nursery furniture sets will have all kinds of features you may have never even thought of.

Steriliser and dryer set

Save yourself a few extra steps until baby finally gets weaned.  A sterilizer and dryer will decontaminate all those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies and dry things off so there no moisture for bugs to breed in.

Amazon Prime

You probably won’t have time to watch the streaming tv that comes with Prime, but Prime will prove its worth in no time by saving you trips to the store.  Two-day shipping will be your new best friend, and now you can even get groceries through Prime!

A Diaper Genie or Ubbi

This one isn’t even that much of a splurge, but consider it an essential item.  It is incredible how much stink can come from such a sweet new baby, but the Diaper Genie will keep odors down without needing to be emptied five times a day.  The Ubbi is also considered a great bet.

Magnetic baby clothes

That’s right!  Magnetic baby clothes are a thing, now.  These are definitely pricier than buttons, snaps, and zippers.  But buttons and snaps are harder to manage at 3am than you might think, and zippers always come with a risk of pinching delicate baby skin.  The squirmy nature of babies exacerbates both of these problems.  Remember that you will be operating as a zombie, especially for those first few weeks.  Do your future self a favor, and invest in some magnetic outfits.

Babies are expensive, no matter what.  But if you have some money to spend, these are all good bets to make your life simpler and easier with an infant, so you have more time to cuddle.

Thank you so much for reading! Having a little one should be a joyous time so hopefully this will help you free up your time for extra cuddle and fun time.

Stay wonderful!
