So as we come into the second month of the New Year, I wanted to share with you my first monthly edit! The January Edit; Showcasing all of the things I’ve loved during the month of Jan. This is slightly delayed in posting due to testing positive for Covid and being quite unwell. So without further ado, here is the BurstsOfAutumn January edit.

Beauty

Although January has been pretty much no different to 2020 in terms of lockdown, I have still tried to use my makeup and products and get use out of them. I’ve been trying my best to put some nice makeup on for my work meetings, days on zoom and just working from home in general to give me a boost and a bit of motivation to get up and work despite being in my bedroom or kitchen! I in fact did a simple cosy Sunday makeup look on Youtube.

Eyes

Throughout January I didn’t really wear much makeup but when I did, I’d do a small amount of eye shadow followed by my trusty mascara. Products I used included E.l.f metallic liquid eye shadow in the shades ‘Moon Lune’ and ‘Pinky Swear’. Both shades were bought new at the beginning pf January after seeing them on E.L.F’s Instagram and I absolutely fell in love. The pigment isn’t heavy, but in fact light weight in feel and needs a few coats to create a sheen and full look.

For my mascara I use my Revolution ‘Big Lash’ XL volume waterproof mascara alongside my Collection lengthening waterproof mascara. I have used my Revolution one for many moons and reach for it time and time again as it’s a nice application, long lasting and makes lashes appear long, strong and comfortable. The collection one was a Christmas gift and I have found it useful to apply when I am in need of a more simplified and professional look.

Face

I haven’t really used much foundation, concealer or anything during January but when I have I reached for my Gifted LUSH Trix stick in the shade 10C. I use it on my under eye area and on any areas where my skin is blemished. It gives my face an even look and base. I accompany that with my Gifted LUSH ‘Emotional Brilliance’ Translucent face powder which is light, airy and easy to wear to create an even and mattified surface. As a base I like to use my Revolution Hydrating primer and the Revolution Pore Blur primer for my nose and T-zone. It helps my makeup stay put and last longer without feeling a heavy application or irritation. They are my life savers!

For highlighter I will often use a combination of the Halloween extreme liquid highlighter and also a pink, blush coloured powder I got in my Revolution advent calendar. They are shimmering, shiny but can be made subtle for a more relaxed and professional look. I top it all off with my Sunkissed metallic bronze blush which gives a slightly shimmery bronzed look in my areas of contour around my cheeks and jaw line.

Lips

Since January was more of a ‘work’ month and since we are in a national lockdown, most of my time has been spent home in my loungewear sitting with my feet up working from bed and losing my mind home schooling, I never really thought about lipstick. However when I did decide to rock those lips and was in need of a boost I would reach for my new bright red matte lip that my friend bought me for Christmas. It’s the ‘Glow up’ lip gloss and lip liner set and I love it. It’s simple, budget friendly and very comfortable on the lips.

When I was feeling more of a settled and simple lip colour I would use the Cairo shade lipstick from LUSH which was Kindly gifted to me. It is a glorious lipstick and adds a slight metallic sheen to your lips whilst giving them a lovely golden brown/copper base.

If I wasn’t feeling a coloured lip I would most likely be rocking my Collection ‘Gloss me up’ High shine lip gloss which smelled of sweets, was nice to wear and just made me feel slightly pouty without having tonnes of makeup on. It was just a nice one to go with.

Skincare

My skincare for this month was quite mismatched including my Primark gentle skincare range, Revolution skincare overnight masks for spot prone skin and their Pink clay mask. I also used the Tesco Fresh and clean range face wash and face scrub followed by my Superdrug naturally radiant glycolic tonic toner. My face cream ranged from the Naturally radiant day cream, then the night cream and then again onto the Primark gentle skincare range. It was all a little muddled this month but for February I will try and keep my skincare to a steady routine!

Haircare

My haircare was very limited this month. I think I have been so busy with work, homeschooling and having Covid that I was just simplifying my routines. I used my trusty sidekick ‘Function of beauty’ shampoo and conditioner which is just divine! It’s a subscription based company or a one off where they create a unique formula based on your haircare wants, needs and overall enjoyment of scents, colours and ingredients. It’s by far the best company for hair care I have come across and will continue to use their services for a long time! I even convinced mama Autumn to get her own ‘Function of Nanny’ hehe.

Food

Lots of people are talking about how they’ve gained weight during lockdown and how they are snacking more. I say, If it makes you feel better, takes your mind off the current difficult situation the world is in, then do what makes you happy. So I thought I would share the food I’ve been loving during January. I have loved sharing my food on Instagram and twitter even moreso since it’s been Veganuary!

Creative Nature goodies

I discovered Creative Nature products during my essential shop. I came across their ‘Gnawbles’ which I adored! They are basically the vegan equivalent of Maltesers and although a little pricey for the big packs, they are so worth it. I actually posted about them on my Instagram stories and from there we decided to collaborate. So I ordered some goodies to try and I now have a code for you lovely lot to give you 10% off! * If you Kindly purchase using my code, I will get a percentage at no extra cost to you! So thank you in advance and I hope you enjoy.

Asda plant based & vegan ranges

I am a savoury gal so I reach for the savoury snacks and food over sweetness more so, so my January picks are mainly around delicious vegan lunch and dinner. I have adored the Asda Plant Based range during January and have loved making lots of different meals with them. Their range includes a meat free chicken joint, southern fried ‘chicken’ goujons, ‘chicken’ Kievs, plant based vegan burgers, sausages and much more. They also have in their new shelf at Asda, vegan Richmond sausages, Asda special meatless beef wellington and The Meatless farm range including burgers, sausages and mince!

These Richmond meat-free sausages are beautiful. They are flavoursome, slightly salty and have a slightly crisp skin for the full experience when you bite into them. They have a lovely texture and just taste really delicious.
I won't lie, I have slightly lived one these during January. Since first trying them I realised they can be used in a lot of different dishes; From chicken mayo baguettes to chicken strips and chips and just an addition to a platter of food or even for a lunch time snack on their own. They are a great addition to your fridge!
As you can see there is a plate of delicious goodies including veg, salad, burgers, cheese and even a mayo! I can tell you that the veg and salad are from Asda's chilled section accompanied by mini jarred gherkins. Then we have delicious Meatless farm burgers topped with Applewoods smoked vegan cheese and finished off with vegan Baconnaise by Hellmans! Oh my word. It is beautiful, smokey and adds that bacon-y hint to the dish.
When I spotted this in Asda's freezer section I grabbed it besides it being full priced which in my opinion is insanely expensive! I really like this flavour. It's caramel centre is gooey and tasty and the coconut ice cream is very lightly flavoured so those who aren't a fan of coconut, fear not! This really helped me during my time of having Covid!
Well.Well.Well. Is that vegan pork pies I see? Why yes it is! Although pork pies were never a huge part of my life as a meat eater, when I saw these I thought I'd pop them in the trolley and give them a go. I must say they are a lovely snack for lunch time and would be a great addition to a vegan buffet. They are Jelly-less which is nice as I always thought that part was gross but yes overall, very pleasant.
Asda have a huge range of vegan fridge food now and part of that range was the Ginsters, pukka and Asda's own pies and pastries. I found this Quorn pasty, a peppered streak Quorn pasty, moroccan vegetable, chicken and leak pukka pie, Asda's own Cornish pasty, Asda's plant based steak-less bakes and even sheese and bean bakes. We tried them all and most of them we have continued to add to our shop often!
This Asda's extra special free from beef wellington is absolutely divine! It's a moist meat textured vegan joint wrapped in flakey pastry and oozes almost a Jus when you cut into it. It's so tasty and can be cooked for Sunday roast, every day meal or even for Christmas dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed this throughout January on the odd occasion and keep coming back to it time and time again.
Here we have vegan chilli filled jacket potatoes with a Coleslaw salad side. The vegan chilli filling is actually the Asda free from plant based chilli mix from the frozen section and packs so much flavour and texture! It's easy to cook and creates absolutely divine meals whether you want to service it in jacket potatoes, on it's own, adding lentils or veg or even just with some rice and a dollop of vegan Oatly Creme Fresh!

Lifestyle

January was quite a rocky month where we didn’t know whether we were coming or going to be honest. The days seemed to fly by but also seemed to drag on and the mix of homeschooling and then regular school was confusing, difficult and frustrating. Work was intense and keeping up was a rollercoaster ride of fun, anxiety and anticipation! So here are some general lifestyle bits I have loved during January.

During January I started my Goodreads reading challenge which I am super excited about. I finished reading Stephen King and Owen King’s novel ‘Sleeping Beauties’ and began ‘Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine’ by Gail Honeyman. Reading has been very comforting for me this year so far and so I am making room for lots of it during 2021.

I was gifted these gorgeous resin flower earrings from Amy Marie Jewellery which I spoke about in my Shop Small gift guide! They are bright, colourful, quirky and just perfect.

I have been favouring my Specsavers Kylie Minogue specs during January. They are probably my simplest pair yet I just adore them.

I have been loving candles and have fallen back in love with incense sticks which has been so relaxing and has really set a calming mood in my home.

Revolution hand gels have played a huge part during January with lockdown, school runs, shopping and just in general to keep safe and clean.

My Nasty Gal cosy knit cardi has been a big January hit and has comforted me during my worst and best days of the month so It certainly deserves a shoutout

I have enjoyed lots during January and have tried to make things as best as can be considering we are again in a national lockdown. I’ve been sharing on my socials too so if you fancy a look over on them, you can either find them all on my site or even head to my mini promo site here!

Thanks for reading! I know it’s a long one but I really appreciate any amount you have absorbed hehe. What was important to you during January? And what were you loving? Let me know in the comments

Stay wonderful!
